SDGE Energy Education Program
for Low-Income Customers

This project began in 1985 when the California State Department of Economic Opportunity hired RHA to design, implement and manage their Energy Education and Outreach Program. Forty-eight workshops in four regions were completed. Then in 1988, RHA developed, tested, evaluated, and managed SDG&E's Energy Education project. Workshops were designed and delivered and energy education services were provided to more than 15,000 SDG&E low-income customers. From 1989 to present, SDG&E has contracted with RHA to provide energy education services to their customers. RHA developed, tested and evaluated several specialized workshops. The workshop format currently in use includes RHA produced video presentations providing customers with information on energy conservation behaviors and practices. Over 150,000 SDG&E low-income customers have been served via these workshops.

Energy Team Program
RHA is the prime contractor for SDG&E's Energy Team Program, responsible for the delivery of no-cost weatherization and education services to 10,000 homes per year since 1990. RHA is responsible for project marketing, in-home energy education and the work of subcontractors performing weatherization services. Neighborhoods are targeted for program participation and Energy Specialists visit the homes, conduct an audit for energy efficient measures to be installed and teach customers how to save energy and thereby reduce their utility bills. Additional projects managed by RHA in the weatherization field include Sacramento Municipal Utility District's Low-Income Weatherization Program and Sierra Pacific Power Company's Good Cents Program.
